Mr Stanga is currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Vitreoretinal Surgery for the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Central Manchester & Manchester Children's University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Mr Stanga has acted as Associate Head of Division having stepped down
from this post in March 2007 to remain Chairman of the Theatre Users and
Laser Safety Committees for the above named hospital.
Mr Stanga has been working in Ophthalmology for over 15 years.

Mr Stanga read Medicine at the prestigious University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, qualifying in 1990.
In the NHS, Mr Stanga is responsible for a Vitreoretinal, a Macular and a General Clinic as well as two Vitreoretinal Theatre lists. He also takes part in both the Vitreoretinal and General Consultant on-call rota.
Mr Stanga has had a personal interest in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy since the very beginning of his career. Since 1993 he has been researching into new and emerging medical and surgical treatments for both conditions having worked in the development and application of new outpatient and surgical therapies such as retrobulbar interferon, genetics of AMD, retinal pigment epithelium translocation surgery, macular translocation surgery, micropulse diode laser, and antiangiogenic intravitreal drugs.
Mr Stanga continues to pursue his research activities (see Research section). The pharmacological and surgical treatment of diabetic proliferative retinopathy and macular oedema, choroidal neovascularisation secondary to age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, myopic maculopathy and eye trauma are his present main interests.
Mr Stanga is routinely invited to give presentations at both national and international level.
Mr Stanga is routinely invited by leading peer-reviewed international ophthalmology journals to review papers submitted for publication and is a member of the Retina Today Journal Editorial Board.
Mr Stanga has always enjoyed and maintained a high interest in teaching and continues to lecture in a variety of topics in the field of Ophthalmology. Mr Stanga is also involved in the clinical teaching of Medical Students, Nursing Staff, Orthoptists and SHOs for their final RCOphth Fellowship examination.
Mr Stanga has organised / chaired several international meetings including, among others, the 2004 British and Eire Vitreoretinal Association (BEAVRS) Annual Meeting (Manchester, UK).
In 2006, Mr Stanga received an award for Outstanding Contribution to Ophthalmology in Singapore presented by the Tan Tock Seng Hospital from the same country.
