Optometrist, Dr. Cindy Tromans

Cindy Tromans PhD BSc(Hons) MCOoptom Dip(IP) FEAOO, is Consultant Optometrist and Head of Optometry at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in the University Department of Ophthalmology University of Manchester.

She was President of the College of Optometrists from 2010 to 2012. and is now the Chair of the Board of Trustees and the College’s International Representative. She is Vice Chair of the Joint Optical Committee for the European Union and Vice Chair of the World Council of Optometry’s Legislation, Regulation and Standards Committee and became a Fellow of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics in 2012.

In her clinical practice, Cindy specialises therapeutic/medical contact lenses, keratoconus ophthalmic ultrasound and biometry

She has authored numerous research and clinical papers and spoken nationally and internationally on both her clinical interests and on developing the scope of optometric practice.


Senior Ophthalmic Science Practitioner, Mr Ian Morten

Ian is currently employed with The Central Manchester Foundation NHS Trust and has been for over 17 years. He is a Senior Ophthalmic Science Practitioner working at The Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Ian has also worked for the BUPA/SPIRE Hospital group for the last 7 years.

Ian started in Aug 1998 learning basic camera techniques along with the pathology of the eye in a trainee position. Over the years Ian developed his skills and is now a senior Ophthalmic Science Practitioner working within a large 27 person team. He is heavily involved in training other staff with the advanced skills, techniques and knowledge he has gained through his time and experience.

In his clinical practice, Ian specialises in Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) and Autofluorescence, Slit lamp Imaging, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Optos 200TX and California Imaging, Goldmanns applanation tonometry and Humphries Visual Fields (HVF).

Ian is a member of the Ophthalmic Imaging Association (OIA).
