In 2010 Professor Stanga and Mr Susmito Biswas set up, within the NHS at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, one of only two national Regional Paediatric Vitreoretinal Services. They carry out monthly dedicated joint clinics with theatre lists.
Professor Stanga and Mr Biswas also offer this service in the private sector. Patients are seen in the Private Patient Centre at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. These appointments usually take longer (especially with babies) and can be arranged by contacting this office. For very young children and babies it may be necessary to arrange for a full retinal examination, at a later date, under general anaesthesia in theatre.
For patients travelling from abroad we usually try to offer treatment shortly after the consultation and we are happy to offer advice regarding accommodation if required.
Standard and innovative treatment strategies are offered to patients; some have been developed by Professor Stanga and Mr Biswas ie transcleral drainage of subretinal fluid/anti-VEGF/laser for Exudative Retinal Detachment in Coats’ disease.
Some of the conditions treated by Professor Stanga and Mr Biswas are Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), Coats’ Disease, Retinal Detachments and genetic hereditary diseases amongst these Stargardt’s Disease and Retinitis Pigmentosa.
